Los Angeles Angels Trade Jon Singleton To Houston Astros

Angels Receive Minor League Pitcher In Return

Singleton Struggled In Los Angeles But Could Find Success In Houston

The Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros have agreed to a trade that will send first baseman Jon Singleton to Houston in exchange for a minor league pitcher. The Angels will receive 23-year-old right-handed pitcher Jake Lemoine from the Astros.

Singleton, 29, was once one of the Angels’ top prospects, but he has struggled to live up to expectations in recent seasons. He has a career batting average of .222 with 71 home runs and 292 RBIs in 568 games. He hit just .208 with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs in 104 games for the Angels in 2022.

The Astros are hoping that Singleton can find his power stroke in Houston. Singleton has shown flashes of power in the past, hitting 33 home runs in 2017 and 26 home runs in 2018. He also has a good eye at the plate, with a career on-base percentage of .339.

Lemoine, 23, was a 10th-round pick by the Astros in the 2021 MLB Draft. He has a fastball that can reach 95 mph and a good changeup. He spent the 2022 season with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, the Astros' Low-A affiliate, and went 4-4 with a 3.68 ERA in 15 starts.

The Angels are hoping that Lemoine can develop into a starting pitcher in the future. He has good stuff and is still very young. The Astros are hoping that Singleton can provide some power to their lineup. He has shown flashes of power in the past and could be a valuable addition to the team.
