WEB Raavan: A Modern Retelling of the Epic Ramayana

Synopsis

WEB Raavan (2010) is a Bollywood epic action-adventure film loosely based on the Hindu epic Ramayana. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film stars Abhishek Bacchhan as Beera, a modern-day bandit who kidnaps Sita, the wife of police officer Ram (Vikram). With the help of Hanuman (Govinda), Ram sets out on a quest to rescue Sita and defeat Beera.

Reinterpretation of the Ramayana

WEB Raavan offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the ancient story of Ramayana. In this version, Beera is not a demon but a righteous bandit who kidnaps Sita to protect her from the corruption of the police. As the story unfolds, Beera and Sita develop a complex relationship, challenging the traditional roles of good and evil. The film explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the battle between dharma (righteousness) and adharma (unrighteousness).
