Vehicle Use Tax

Illinois private party vehicle use tax is based on the purchase price or fair market value of the motor vehicle. This tax is due when the vehicle is first registered in Illinois.

Antique Vehicle License Plates

Registration Period

Antique Vehicle License Plates are issued for a five-year registration period expiring Dec. 31st of the fifth year following the year the plates are issued.

Eligibility

To be eligible for antique license plates, a vehicle must be:

• At least 25 years old
• In original or unrestored condition
• Not used for daily transportation

Fees

The owner of an antique vehicle may register such vehicle for a fee not to exceed $25.
